Collaborating for Impact: ALGAESYS and 1H2O3 Team Up for Smarter Water Treatment
Taking on the challenge of sustainable water management and resource recovery is no small feat. At ALGAESYS, we pride ourselves on building flexible, decentralised systems that adapt to a wide range of environments and needs. However, achieving this is not something we do alone. Collaboration plays a vital role.
Engineer Manager Thoribio Augusto has been leading one of our latest projects, bringing a unique background in production engineering and supply chain management in the automotive industry to the world of water innovation. He began his journey at ALGAESYS, assisting in the design and fabrication of stainless steel tanks, and soon joined the team full-time. Thoribio has become a core contributor to our work, combining technical rigour with a passion for sustainable solutions.
“I love working in engineering because of the challenges — each project is unique, each with its own focus and solution,” says Thoribio.
“Right now, we still have good access to water resources, but if we don’t start changing how we use water, our grandchildren may not be as lucky. I like being part of a company that has this in focus.”

As part of this project, Thoribio identified the need for a lamella plate separator in the conventional settlement stage. After an extensive search, he found the perfect solution in 1H2O3.
Founded in 2018, 1H2O3 is based in Switzerland with two production sites in northwest France. They specialise in smart, plug-and-play water treatment solutions that are easy to integrate and customise. Whether for municipal, industrial, or decentralised systems, 1H2O3 helps clients reduce installation costs, save space, and accelerate deployment timelines — all while promoting resource efficiency and innovation.
Their product ticked all the boxes in terms of footprint, flow rate, and modularity — a rare combination.
We spoke to Nicolas Meudal, founder of 1H2O3, who described their approach as “Lego for water treatment.”
“For every project, water treatment is typically the same, but the way you put a system together will differ. For example, the Lamella Plate Separator is just one of these Lego bricks – a single piece of technology. We combine these technologies to make machines that fit the individual need.”
Like ALGAESYS, 1H2O3 focuses on compact, efficient, and modular systems that can be configured to meet specific project needs. Their technologies allow clients and integrators to personalise systems, avoiding the “copy-paste” approach of traditional water infrastructure. This philosophy aligns perfectly with ALGAESYS’ decentralised and circular model.
