Welcoming Sofia to ALGAESYS: A New Voice for Water Innovation

We’re excited to officially welcome Sofia Bekir Fuente to the ALGAESYS team as our Director of Communications! With a background in Environmental Engineering and a strong passion for sustainable water solutions, Sofia brings a unique mix of technical knowledge and storytelling talent to our mission.

Our new Director of Communications - Sofia Bekir Fuente. Engineer in the office, Rugby Player on the field!

What is your role at ALGAESYS, and what does it involve?
“I'm the Director of Communications, and I get to write educational and engaging content that highlights the importance of water circularity, water reuse, and wastewater treatment. I also promote what ALGAESYS does to the world—connecting our innovative systems with the people and industries who can benefit from them most.”

Tell us a bit about your background:
“I graduated as an Environmental Engineer, with a minor in Science Communication, in 2022, so I’m still relatively new to the field. My first job in the industry was with Urbaqua, where I worked as a Field Technician and then as a Graduate Environmental Engineer. I learned a lot about water management during that time, and I became fascinated with the potential of wastewater as a valuable resource—this interest is what first drew me to ALGAESYS.

Having seen how traditional water treatment systems operate firsthand, I’m excited about the intelligent simplicity of the ALGAESYS technology. I believe in its ability to improve water treatment across diverse applications, and I’m passionate about sharing that message far and wide.”

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
“I’m also a professional rugby player! I'm lucky enough to work remotely with ALGAESYS, which allows me to balance my career goals in environmental communications with my sporting ambitions. Whether on the field or in the (virtual) office, I love being part of a team working towards something meaningful.”

Sofia’s passion for sustainable innovation and her ability to communicate complex environmental challenges with clarity and creativity make her a valuable addition to our growing team. As we expand our work across industries and regions, her voice will help us amplify the importance of circular water solutions and connect with the communities that need them most. Welcome aboard, Sofia!
